The Air Quality Index (AQI) Key is presented as a table, to the right of the two maps.

Animation reflects 24-hour average PM2.5 and 8-hour average O3 concentrations, calculated from observed 1-hour data.

These Ozone and Particle Pollution maps and animation loops are from http://airnow.gov – Map Center, Local (NM) Air Quality.

At highest risk from particle pollution are people with heart or lung disease, older adults (possibly because they may have undiagnosed heart or lung disease), and children whose lungs are still developing and who are more active outdoors, as well as children suffering from asthma. Sensitive Groups for ozone are active children and adults and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma.

Particle pollution data are generated using monitoring techniques that approximate the Federal Reference Method. Ozone (O3) and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) data are published as soon as practical after the end of each hour and as such are not fully validated. Maps are also archived in the same way. Therefore, data are only approved for the expressed purpose of reporting and forecasting the Air Quality. Maps are generally available after 9 a.m. EST. Each color-coded circle on the PM2.5 map above indicates the Air Quality Index (AQI) category for a ground-based air quality monitoring station. Each color on the O3 map above indicates the Air Quality Index (AQI) category derived from ground-based air quality monitoring stations. See the AIRNow Web site for information on how AQI maps are calculated and about monitoring stations.
